The wild roses of the sub species Rosa canina, grow naturally as a creeping plant at an altitude of over 2000 metres among the peaks and valleys in the Dragon Mountains (Drakensberg) of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Southern Africa. Community based collectors harvest the rosehip fruits and pack them onto donkeys where they are delivered to middlemen or traders. They then begin a journey down from the mountains to processors who prepare rosehip oil and rosehip shells. Traditional Uses
Images of roses and their medicinal use have been found among the hieroglyphs of the ancient Egyptians and there are references to its use to treat wounds among the Romans more than 2100 years ago. This remarkable plant was also associated with protection from negative spirits in the Middle Ages. Medicinally throughout the ages it has been used to treat wounds, inflammation, joint disease, scurvy, kidney, and urinary complaints. From a cosmetic point of view, rosehip oil is well known for its anti-ageing and renewing properties but more recently rosehip shell extract has been targeted at skin healing, skin brightening and skin renewal.

Active Components
RosaVive is based on the high natural occurrence of vitamin C in the rosehip fruits from the Dragon Mountains (Drakensberg). Rose hips also contain carotenoids, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, and some bioflavonoids, which are well known for their conditioning beneficial activities.
