STOCKMEIER Personal Care - more successful than ever

The end of the year is approaching - and this is the time to review and recap 2023. Right at the beginning of the year, our Personal Care team grew by 3 new employees in customer advice and sales. Our customer and supplier support network was thus enriched with additional technical and commercial experience. This was accompanied by the expansion of our portfolio to include additional basic raw materials and specialities, such as active ingredients and natural oils and fats. In March 2023, we restructured and relaunched our product range in line with technical, regulatory and commercial aspects. Our product catalogue has been reprinted already due to the numerous requests from the market. Our customers‘ interest in innovations, services and solutions was extremely high and we were able to show our STOCKMEIER Personal Care capabilities. On the international stage we celebrated another highlight. Three of our new cosmetic formulations containing our product ingredients were honoured with the Silver Avard at the in-cosmetics global trade fair in Barcelona.

Our presence at Cosmetic Business in Munich and SEPAWA Congress in Berlin was also accompanied by success. In short, we look back on a very successful year, are proud of it and will keep on. 2020 promises to be no less exciting. We gained new partners for our product portfolio, the House of Innovations is working on new guide recipes and the Personal Care team is set to grow.

We would like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude to our customers and partners, as your input and the exchange of experience with you, puts us in the position to develop new ideas and solutions, and that is what characterises our success.

BRB

BRB – Beauty with silicones in hair care applications

Silicones are used as multifunctional ingredients in a variety of hair care products. With their unique chemical and physical properties, these extremely versatile substances can not only care for the hair.

With their unrivalled performance, they add shine and make hair easier to comb. They offer colour protection and can prevent heat damage. They also increase hair strength, have a repair effect and give the impression of moisture (wet look effect). During styling, curl stability is supported and frizz is controlled. Silicones offer volume effects, so that volume can be increased or even reduced. In short, silicones offer exceptional performance compared to silicone-free alternatives, especially in hair care products. If you want these effects in your products, you will continue to use silicones.

The 3-in-1 hair serum helps to strengthen, repair and moisturise the hair, so that it looks shiny and healthy. The anti-frizz test showed that the hair tress (B) treated with 0.1 g of product was less frizzy after 8 hours at 70 % relative humidity (RH) and a temperature of 30 °C compared to untreated hair (A).

The current formulation kit of our parnert BRB, 6 new formulations are presented. One of these we would like to highlight here:

Formula: 3-in-1 Magic Hair Serum

A: Add the ingredients one after the other. Mix well after each addition.

Alina GmbH

Alina GmbH - from 01.01.2024 our new supplier partner for active ingredient mixtures

Alina Care Components are multi-active ingredient mixtures with carefully selected ingredients that are perfectly harmonised as in a cocktail to bring out both the main effect and welcome side effects. In line with Aristotle's motto: The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

These products, which Alina has been developing for the industry for 25 years, will be offered by STOCKMEIER from January 2024 as part of our distribution mandate. All Alina Care Components are certified and tested for their quality and safety for cosmetic formulations. Their effectiveness has been proven by studies conducted by independent, renowned laboratories.

The fact that they are pre-formulated mixtures with side effects such as easy emulsification or antimicrobial properties simplifies their incorporation into cosmetics. It is possible to combine or reduce various production steps. Alina Care Components therefore support the efficient production of cosmetic formulations.

Ectoin

Ectoin - a very special trend ingredient

Ectoin (chem.: (S)-2-methyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid) is a cyclic amino acid produced by extremophilic bacteria. These extremolytes survive under extreme conditions such as severe drought, UV radiation or high salt concentrations. Ectoin is obtained through fermentation by the bacterium Halomonas elongata.

Ectoin has a cell-protecting and anti-inflammatory effect by forming a protective shield of water molecules around itself and around neighbouring proteins and cell membranes. This ectoin-hydro complex is used in cosmetic care to protect the skin from damage caused by stress factors such as UV radiation, dryness, fine dust or allergens. The moisturising effect of Ectoin is long-lasting. It is very suitable for all skin types - also for preventing the formation of wrinkles.

Ectoin is used in medical products for irritations or inflammatory diseases of the skin or mucous membranes.

5 questions to ...

Dennis Lohse

Key Account & Business Development Manager LifeScience Europe

1. How did you get into the personal care sector?

After my apprenticeship in the steel and semifinished products industry and my degree in economics, I changed to product management and joined STOCKMEIER in 2015. I quickly gained an overview of the industry through application-based training and independent customer visits. Even today, I get exciting insights every week and follow the trends on the market.

2. What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work?

Successful teamwork is my main priority. Our success depends on it. We see ourselves as European in the life science industry and we live this in our daily work with our international team. My role includes various tasks out of the sales, product and business development area.

3. Which products particularly inspire you?

Since entering the personal care industry, I have had the opportunity to get to know a wide range of raw materials. Many are of great importance when it comes to keeping pace in this innovative market. Currently, I am particularly excited about the sulphate- and dioxane-free surfactants from our partner Innospec, with which we offer our customers real added value for their solid formulations! In addition, we are implementing more and more raw materials of plant and regional origin.

4. What would you like to see in the personal care sector in the future?

I hope that consumer demands and scientific facts will converge a little more in the future. There is still some catching up to do here! Otherwise, I hope that the industry will continue to be innovative and trendy.

5. How do you balance your working day?

Sport is the perfect balance. My favourite way to get out into nature is on my racing bike or mountain bike, and I've also been on the golf course for a few months now. Apart from that, the beautiful Hanseatic city of Hamburg offers many leisure activities - at the weekends I like to go to the Elbe with friends or to the Volksparkstadion to watch HSV.

Beautiful hands
